do you want to know why the whole concept of moral relativism annoys me so? well, first let me define that term using my special politically incorrect dictionary:
moral relativism: any case where someone shrugs their ignorant shoulders during moral emergency simply because someone says, “hell, i think it’s ok.” then society turns its cheek and it gets a good ass-kicking.just because that one person says it’s alright, the rest of the world deems it agreeable. this just will not do.
we are living in a world where we are allowed to do what we want. what an incredible utopia, one must think, to have such a wide range of choices to one’s self. when someone isn’t happy with their sexual anatomy, they have it changed. when a kid thinks his parents should not be allowed to discipline him, he files for emancipation. when parents think their newly conceived baby should be smarter, they now have the scientific ability to have its IQ increased. inside of this wonderful supermarket of unlimited choices, what human in their right mind would not want to take advantage of it? so we change our rules to what we want and not what is truly needed in society. we alter what is natural and what is real and turn it into an extension of our own wanton desires.
but this is not right; this is the evil of moral relativism.
as we enter into the twenty-first century, we abandon the laws of nature and set about to conquer our individual battles. the idea of a cooperative community is erased and in its place is a roadmap with many separate deadends, each pulling a member of that community further away from mutual morale. the problem is nowadays that everyone is looking out for their own happiness, regardless of the dire consequences on the rest of society.
the common good is no longer. only egocentrism remains. we fail to maintain a set code of ethics and we lose our humanity. we instead become consumers in this cosmic supermarket looking for a good deal that will make life so much easier for us. we fail to regard how our choices will effect other potential consumers. once we start taking heed to those effects on society as a whole, we then will be able to re-establish the common good. and presently we have nothing to base this universal “good” and “bad” on. i’m no blasphemer, but the bible just ain’t cuttin’ it anymore.
well, i guess i can’t start putting blame on religion… then what kind of offspring of two sham catholic parents would i be?
