i remember the first sample of fanfiction i ever stumbled upon was of nsync, and that was three years ago. i also remember thinking how ridiculous the concept was — writing about celebrities was pretty much pathetic. but i started reading through this website filled with fanfiction and came to the shocking realization that this writer was talented. i read story after story and was overwhelmed by the emotion that i had no idea people attached to the characters.
with this in mind, i began to look for more fanfiction, even reading up on shows like days of our lives and my then recent obsession brady black. then it evolved into an obsession for btvs b/x fanfiction and now i find myself searching for smallville literature. yes, they can sometimes be idealistic, melodramatic, and downright sappy. but if they are written well and evoke feelings in me that i never knew existed then all the more power to these writers of the fanciful.
i become infatuated with certain things very quickly. i become a devoted fan and watcher and writer. i don’t know what comes over me. but by putting my devotion into writing, it somehow solidifies the fact that i was a part of it and that i cared enough about those feelings which were stirred within me to transcribe them.
it’s something not many people will understand, fanfiction that is. they’ll say there’s no use for it or that the writers of it are living in their own fabricated dreamland. but sometimes that’s just reason enough for me to write.
