i finally saw amélie the other day, and i absolutely loved it — i hadn’t seen a movie that i enjoyed throughout its entire two hour-something viewing until this wonderful french film. subtitles can be a pain in the neck, but this time it didn’t really detract meaning from the storyline. the characters, the humour, the accents… i loved it all.

i know i’m already unhealthily obsessed with european men, but there is another to add to the ongoing list (and it’s not the traveling gnome): mathieu kassovitz. he plays a delightfully eccentric fellow in the movie, but he is also a talented foreign film director in real life.
