the grammys were on last night and, like true grammy fashion as of late, it sucked mucho grande. here are a few main observations and conclusions that i drew from the drone and flashes of the television:
- nelly and kelly’s musical medley of “it’s gettin’ hot in herre” and “dilemma” made listening to nails screech across a chalkboard all the more appealing. yoko ono did not look impressed.
- avril lavigne appears to have lost her guitar. between you and me, i think she was playing on a cardboard cut-out this whole time.
- since when did the r&b categories move to the slides right before the commercials? does anyone remember when winning the r&b grammys was actually a big deal?
- if i hear norah jones’s “don’t know why” one more time, i think i will be physically sick.
- why does the talent of today’s musical artists seem to be at an all-time low? i mean, some of these people seem to be squeaking by with pretty poor voices. ashanti’s performance was unbelievably bad. i can’t understand how people who can’t even carry a proper tune can be nominated for a grammy. vanessa carlton may be a classically trained pianist (tee hee!), but she can’t sing worth shit. i’m glad “a thousand miles” did not win any awards (read: nails on chalkboard).
