i woke up extra early today so i could register for next year’s courses. i find it hard to believe that summer has just started for most high school folk, whereas my summer is seemingly halfway over.
i got into all of the honours tutorials i wanted, sidestepping one that is going to be taught by a professor i didn’t much care for in my second year at ubc. these classes are pretty small compared to the ones i was in last year. they offer only eight to ten seats maximum. the point of the programme is to allow you to get to know your peers in a closer, more supportive setting; however, i know i’ll just freeze like a deer caught in headlights when it comes to my turn to divulge an opinion.
it’s amazing how certain people peg me as wannabe-intellectual when i mention that i was accepted into an honours programme, as if entering into a field of study i actually enjoy is such a contemptible act of academic bravado. i’ve given my future much thought, and when i put all of the courses i’ve ever taken in order of personal preference, history is the one i find myself completely intrigued by. and what’s also amazing is how most of the people who find an honours degree extraneous or irrelevant are the same ones reluctantly struggling in commerce or engineering because mommy and daddy said it would be a good way to make money.
