carrie’s monologues mirror a lot of the questions running through my own mind.

why is it that we only seem to believe the negative things people say about us? when it comes to life and love, why do we believe our worst reviews?
in new york, they say you’re always looking for a job, a boyfriend, or an apartment… which implies you can’t have it all — at least not all at once. so let’s say you have two out of three, and they’re fabulous. why do we let the one thing we don’t have affect how we feel about all the things we do have? why does one — minus a plus one — feel like it adds up to zero?
maybe it’s not advisable to be an optimist after thirty. maybe pessimism is something that we have to start applying daily, like moisturizer. otherwise, how do you bounce back when reality batters your belief system and love does not, as promised, conquer all? is hope a drug we need to go off of or is it keeping us alive? what is the harm in believing?
