musically challenged

i’m not the type of person who can scope out the latest music trends (but i’m apparently the type of person who can use the term “scope out” without feeling cliché. instead, i rely mostly on word of mouth via the internet or in person. mainstream radio stations don’t do much in the way of introducing music on the verge of being cool but not too cool that they’ve somehow become uncool. rather, they play evanescence’s “bring me to life” ad nauseam et infinitum. (see how cool i am, injecting latin lexicon into my writing? [see how cool i am, using the word “lexicon”?]) man, that could go on forever.

anyway, the point i was so inarticulately trying to get at before i went off on a tangent is that i find some of my favourite songs through television and film (i.e., from their soundtracks). point in case: the first two songs in my jukebox are nods to the o.c. (you know, the show that has mysteriously hooked millions of viewers for no good reason). and the last three are songs from felicity, featured during some rather meaningful felicity/ben moments through which i live vicariously. (note: this was written a while ago and the songs in the jukebox have since changed.)

to further the incongruity of this post: my academic life has hit a rough patch. that and more for your supper-time news tomorrow night.
