i hate those women who nod along to whatever a speaker is saying, no matter what they are saying, not truly listening to the words coming out of their mouth. those women who nod and interject with phrases like “yeah” and “mm hmm” while the other person talks. those oprah-watching women.
i have nothing against oprah as a person, really. whenever i catch her on television, i can’t help but notice that her audience is intensely captivated by what she has to say. she’ll bring experts on her show, the two of them discussing homes, fashion, abused children, menopause, etc. the experts will have something interesting to say on the topic because they’re, well, experts. but then oprah will say something related to the topic, nothing extremely thought-provoking, yet her audience will nod along, eyes wide and glassy, as if she just prophesied the coming apocalypse. it was worse when dr. phil was sitting beside her on the stage, constantly reaffirming her right to tell people how to live (“yes, oprah!”) — and now that goober has his own show.
personally, i like jenny-jones-watching women, because they have no clue what a pashmina is.
p.s. thanks to rachel, awcrud at gmail.com is now my new email address. (go check out her awesome new layout!)
