i have just returned from whistler, bc. it was really nice to take a mini-break, even if it wasn’t a full-fledged vacation. being in whistler allows you to hear many different accents and languages all at once, and this is just walking aimlessly throughout the village! british, russian, irish, french, indian, australian, german, chinese… it’s like normal vancouver but without the many unnecessary gang fights.
the winter olympics 2010, which is set to be in vancouver, is going to attract millions of people (do millions of people still watch the olympics?) to our city and neighbouring areas, such as whistler mountain. just like expo ‘86 was supposed to “put vancouver on the map”, the olympics are supposed to highlight our city with an even bigger dot on that map and circle it in red. i used to be really excited about the winter olympics as a kid; i loved watching the figure skating events and olympic hockey. now that i’m older, i’ve realized how lame figure skating is and have stuck to good ol’ hockey. it’s going to be amazing to be able to watch a live olympic hockey game in my hometown, provided i can actually get seats.
i managed to snap some pictures during my time at whistler, in an attempt to get some of you guys up there for your own full-fledged vacations.
